Partners

The CASA team comprised of four collaborating universities: the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the University of Oklahoma, Colorado State University, and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. This academic partnership spanned all the critical competency areas of our research and education initiatives through either our core partners or outreach partners.

University of Massachusetts (UMass) is a national leader in remote sensing, microwave engineering, networking, distributed and embedded computing, hydrology, and educational outreach through its world-class Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science departments.

University of Oklahoma (OU) brought a unique cluster comprising the largest academic meteorology program in the nation, major government operations and research centers, several university research centers, and a state climatological survey, along with a large and rapidly growing private sector to the CASA partnership.

Colorado State University (CSU) has a distinguished history in Doppler and polarimetric radar data processing to bridge the sensing expertise at UMass with meteorological expertise at OU. CSU scientists are pioneers in the development of polarimetric radar techniques, signal processing, radar networking, multiple-Doppler wind retrievals, and quantitative information extraction from weather radars.

University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez (UPRM) provided expertise in antenna design, remote sensing, and in the sociological response to weather hazards, an important societal impact of CASA research. UPRM was also home to the Student Test Bed project, an innovative CASA education project developed and implemented in Puerto Rico entirely by students.

University of Virginia - The Systems Engineering department provided expertise in human factors to design user interfaces for DCAS systems.

Outreach Partners
To complement the strengths of our core academic partners, CASA collaborated with the outreach partners listed below:

University of Delaware - Researchers at the Disaster Research Center focused on how DCAS systems reduce the exposure and vulnerability of organizations, individuals, and property to severe weather events, and how end users, access, utilize, and respond to weather forecasts.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) - Dr. William Donner completed his post doctoral work at University of Delaware and is continuing his research as a junior faculty in the department of sociology at IUP

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS - Dr. Eve Gruntfest, professor of geography at UCCS, developed a program dedicated to the integration of the social sciences and meteorology in research and application and is committed to training researchers, educators and practitioners in cross disciplinary studies.

McGill University - Dr. Pavlos Kollias at McGill University is using his experience with the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Radiation Monitoring program for developing a strategy to move the Oklahoma test bed into a multi-user data facility and investigating the potential of the network to support climate modeling research.
