2008 K-12 Content Institute: June 29 - July 3

CASA hosted an exciting professional development opportunity for middle school/high school teachers last summer at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.

This 4-day Content Institute enabled 6th-12th grade science teachers to deepen their knowledge of science and engineering concepts and develop hands-on classroom activities with respect to the Science and Engineering/Technology curriculum frameworks from several states including Colorado and Massachusetts. The Content Institute utilized cutting-edge research being conducted by CASA. The Content Institute featured lectures from expert faculty, hands-on labs and activities, field trips, and the development and review of new classroom resources. During the academic year CASA continues to interact with teachers as they develop and implement projects in their classrooms.

This Content Institute was sponsored by a partnership comprised of CASA, the National Science Foundation, Colorado State University, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez.

Workshops were presented by: Dr. Omnia El Hakim, Colorado State University, Dr. Sandra Cruz-Pol, University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, Dr. Kevin Kloesel, University of Oklahoma, Chris Emery, University of Massachusetts, and Dr. Paula Rees, University of Massachusetts.
