SLC

The CASA Student Leadership Council (SLC) will serve as a key component of the Engineering Research Center's efforts to realize its vision to develop DCAS systems while educating the engineering leaders of the future. The SLC incorporates all students associated with the ERC, bridging the distances between both campuses and fields of study. The SLC is a microcosm of the ERC as a whole, facing both the challenges and opportunities presented to and offered by CASA.

The SLC intends to embrace the challenges inherent in the development of DCAS systems by taking the lead role in the development of a system test bed in Puerto Rico. The SLC is in the preliminary stages of the development effort but will use the test bed to explore engineering and social issues of key interest to the CASA student body. These issues include:

1. the development of new technologies and engineering methods which lead directly to Masters and Ph. D theses in the fields of science and engineering,
2. the exploration of the use of DCAS systems to enhance the teaching of engineering and science at all levels by seeking input from students in the School of Education throughout the design, experimental and operational phases,
3. the emergence of skilled professionals ingrained with the necessary skills of leadership, project management, social awareness, and technical prowess, by integrating the development of these skills into undergraduate and graduate level education,
4. the promotion of engineering and science as an enjoyable, exciting fields, with emphasis on improving the fields' cultures through the inclusion of women and minority students.

As the SLC develops it will address the needs of the CASA student community while contributing to the ERC's vision and goals.
